Quilting patterns are often symmetrical in design. Not the Crazy Quilt! This style of quilting uses irregularly shaped pieces of fabric, embellished with embroidery, beads, and more to create whimsical and beautiful stitched art. In this class, students will be given a fabric quilt block on an open frame and learn how to add embellishments. Appropriate embroidery stitches will be taught along with guidance in the design process.

This one-day class is for those who love to sew while stimulating their own creative energy. The instructor will provide most of the materials and students can bring their own small doo-dads and geegaws to use as embellishments. Students are encouraged to be as individual as they wish!

Intro to Rug Hooking, two-day workshop

CANCELLED. Let us know if you're interested and we'll contact you when we re-schedule. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Rug hooking was considered a craft of the poor or disadvantaged when its current form was first developed around the mid-1800s in New England. Women, wanting to replicate the intricate and costly floor coverings of the rich, found an ingenious and thrifty way to use fabric scraps to create beautiful rugs for their own homes.

Today, rug hooking is both an art and a craft where rugs of all sizes are made by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through a stiff woven base such as burlap or linen. The loops are pulled through the backing material by using a crochet-type hook mounted in a handle for leverage. Artisans today, enjoy creating designs from modern to traditional which skillfully employ both color and texture.

Through an introduction to this creative, satisfying and very forgiving craft, students will get a basic understanding of the techniques and skills necessary to later complete their own, larger projects. They'll make a whimsical contemporary art project.
